Saddle camp rest area, about 70K east of WA border, we spent two nights here to finish off the fruit and vegs.
fantastic rock formations/colours behind the rest area.
clear of the fruit fly gate, and into wa, another 30K to kunanurra.
kunanurra from kellys knob lookout, all a bit smoky up here, lot of hazard reductions going on all across the top end.
tree growing in the rock at the lookout
at the oldest continuosly operating LEGAL distillery in wa. three shots of rum for $5, not a rum fancier myself, but, i made the effort. didnt buy any, the one i liked was $81.50 for 700ml so decided it wasnt that good anyway!
the national park behind the caravan park we are at, tried the showground, they only take big rigs or people with dogs, and, they charged $3 a night more then this place, and we have pool and laundry here too!
on of the many "little" boab trees up here, this one was at the turn off to zebra rock gallery, great looking bits of rock very overpriced, but, they make a beautiful mango smoothy!
the ivanhoe crossing, this is on the original wyndham road, plan was to visit valentine and middle springs then cross the ord here to return to town. what none of the maps/propaganda sheets tell you is that the crossing is actually closed now. where the crossing curves out of site to the right is about halfway across, so you can see other back, even get a piccie if you want, before you turn around and go back the way you came into town. I guess the maintenance on the crossing wasnt justified once the new bitumen road went thru to wyndham??
